Merv,
What equipment ie rod, reel, lines etc would you recommend for
1) Beach fishing for example Ballygally beach
2) Rock fishing for example Browns Bay ?

1) beach fishing equipment would me a normal 12ft beach caster a fixed spool reel size 60-70 is fine the line would recomend would be 18lb you can buy a spool for £4 out of the fishing shop. now this is the inportant bit a shock leader this line is strong mono the way we do it in beach fishing is say you are useing 4oz leads then you would go for a 40lb shock leader so for 1oz-10lb line for 6oz-60lb shock leader this is done for saftey if your rod was 12ft then you would put on 24ft of 60lb shock leader tied on to your 18lb main line and acts like a shock absober, i would use a 3 hook rig in beach fishing on one rod and a pulley rig on the other but a 3 hook rig would do you fine on a beach i normaly fish griper leads on beaches i will be puting on info about leads tommorow at some stage

2) use the same rod reel as above but use a pulley rig and on the lead you are useing tie a little bit of softer line on it clip the line in to the lead link and tie the lead on to the line 10lb line will be fine what this dose is if you get snaged in rocks the lead gets traped in the rock you can simpley pull the rig with a fish on it we hope it will break the 10lb line and you loss a lead but get the rig back. i would recomend useing plain leads for rock fishing and niver go alone untill you become more experanced to be on the safe side

Thanks for that Merv,
I have the basics already then, I have a 12' Red Wolf beach caster 4-8oz casting weight, I have a 70 fixed spool reel loaded with 25lb Berkley tri line. Only things I am missing is terminal tackle.
Is there a list you can suggest for basic terminal tackle to get me started, leads beads etc.
Look forward to the info on leads mate.
Keep it up you are doing a splendid job in this section.
