Fish kill/pollution incident

Over the weekend there was a pollution incident on the Ballymartin/Six Mile Water rivers, resulting in thousands of fish being killed. Reports state that a foamy substance up to two feet deep in places, was seen on the Ballymartin river in the Mallusk area, which runs directly into the Six Mile water. An inspection on Saturday morning found dead and dying fish floating on top of a of the water over a 12 mile stretch. Reports also state that this is a devastating blow for the rivers and there are early fears that the river's fish stocks may never recover.
An investigation into the cause of the polloution is expected to be carried out soon.

This is a complete travesty. One of the best rivers in Europe if not the world wiped out by some neglectant idiot/s. I understand the investigation has not yet traced the cause or where the pollutant originated from. I dearly hope that this incident has not caused any long term effects but it doesn't look good at the moment.

absolutely devastating,i stood and watched fish dying everywhere, enviromental watchdogs, and agencies, about as much use as a chocolate fire-guard.

So you should be Stevie.
Have you heard anything else yet mate? I know this is one of the rivers that you do a lot of guiding on.

yes its cost me quite a few bookings also , i had to cancel a few guys that wanted to fish , not worried about that so much . but there is the loss of lots of smolts, Dollaghan and river trout dead on about 12 miles of river , but in saying that Salmon and trout are up the other wee rivers that run into the sixmile , and im hoping the river will pick up . it has done so in the past after simalar things happened , but this is no doubt a very bad one , time will tell. this sort of thing happens to often on one of the best wee rivers in Ireland .

I went up today , it was bloody freezing and blowing a gale , but i did get a few small but lovely trout , so they are not all dead , in saying that i did fish long and hard ,  was glad to see the odd fish. willl know better when the weather picks up . but its stilll not what it should be

At least that's some small comfort.

Good to see there is still signs of life on the river, lets hope it makes a full recovery and produces some good catches this year.
