The latin name for the olives is Baetis, it's in the order of Ephemeroptera.
Hope this helps.

Let this be the "test" in entering flies from the USA! I'll work out the 10 flies and have them on their way! Marking the packet, "gift"! to avoid the taxes and tolls!
Davie,
If you can please E-Mail me details of your mailing address, I'll be timely in getting the packet on its way!
I'll be tying a variation of a "famous" wet fly, common to our north west coastal area! Some there, may see it as having a "local influence"!
A "Dr. Spratley" Variation pattern.
Take care!

So, what size is common in your area for the Olives?
FliTrap

FliTrap
|
Spot on, Wayne!
Its a fine fly.... well tied and well tested! I use it a lot in "variation", up to size 8 hooks, during demonstration tying because of the fun story that goes along with it! Last week, I did a "demo" at a children's wildlife educational program. With the story telling, I had the children standing in line for as long as 45 minutes to get one of the flies! Some total of 8 doz. tied in 6 hrs! What a day of fun! Great to see that many children doing more then play video games all day!

Sorry guys for delay, have been busy.
This is a pattern by Michael Kelly from Balbriggan, which I got from one of O'Rielly's books, for Lough Ennell (but i'm sure will do anywhere) usually fished on the point when trout are taking lake olives.
Will post first thing Monday.

How to do itAMC,
in your photobucket album, go to the pic
Under the pic there are four boxes.
The third one is listed as [img]http://i36.photobucketcetcetcetc
that one will provide the url, which we have to click on to link to the photo
in the post message text that will show as a link
The FOURTH box is [IMG]http://i36.photobucketcettcetc...
Copy/paste that one into your message and it appears as the image.
It's just getting the familiarity..

Davie!
Will be stopping by the Postal Center tomorrow to mail out this collecting of flies!
Two boxes included, the first being of the Dr. Spratly tied for the Swap! In returning the flies from the swap, use that box, please!
The other box contains a few ties of my efforts at what we refer to as "Soft Hackles" and then a few "Spratley's" that I added a bit more variation to..... these being for your enjoyment! It will be a joy knowing that flies I have tied are being fished in your local waters or decorating the near by tries!
Thanks again for allowing me into the Fly Swap.
Looking foreword to seeing the flies!

Details for the Dr. Spratley FlyHook: Your favorite Streamer style hook.
Thread: Black
Tail: Guinea fowl or grizzly hackle fibers
Ribbing: Flat silver or gold tinsel, adjust to size of hook
Body: Uni-Yarn, (2x Regular) your favorite color!
Beard: Guinea fowl for larger sizes. (see note)
Wing: Pheasant tail
Head: Peacock herl
TYING NOTES:
1. First pinch your barb, lay down a thread base to the bend of the hook.
2. Tie in the tail, and then a length of silver tinsel.
3. Tie in Uni-Yarn or dub on the body for smaller sizes
4. Wrap the body forward in a tapered style body and tie off at 3/4 shank length. (From the bend of the hook!)
5. Wrap the tinsel forward as evenly as possible to create the body segments
6. Tie in the beard. (In tying smaller sizes, I simply use a speckled black/white hen hackle, in a collar, then tying the wing over that!)
7. Tie in the wing, using several strands of pheasant tail. (Don’t over kill on the amount of wing materials!)
8. Tie in 2-3 strands of peacock herl just ahead of the wing.
9. Wrap the herl to form a rounded head, whip finish, and cement.
TIPS and NOTES:
This fly has been ties in most every size, fished for Trout to Salmon, one of the most famous in the Northwestern area of the USA and British Columbia, Canada!
Try varying your tying style, tie some with thin bodies, while other fat! While the fly does not represent any one insect, it can be adapted to look like any number and size of Mayfly or Cadis! It’s a great searching pattern for both lakes and streams.
I tend to tie them in the smaller sizes, starting at a size 12, 3x lg. Streamer hook on up to a size 8! I also find it a fun tie in the smaller sizes, using a standard nymph hook. When I go smaller then a size 12 hook, I will switch the wing material to being a Mallard Drake Flank Feather, being softer and bringing a more speckle affect into the wing! This is a common duck feather in our area that is dyed to match a wide range of colors! I use this same idea when tying the pattern for use with our Bream (Bluegill, Crappie and bass!) There really hasn’t been a fish I can’t catch on some variation of this fly! Some of my largest Trout has come from fishing this fly in a size 8 Streamer, cast it 45 degrees down stream and towards the side, then allowing it to swing and rise in front of the feeding Trout! In fishing lakes, the most common arrangement is to fish it with a full sinking line or a sinking tip line in 8-15 feet of water, using a 9’ leader, matched to the fish you are after!! I like to Troll this fly close to the bottom, vary your speed until you locate the fish. With a Floating line, it can be fished just sub-surface, in short strips! Killer for fish on a fast rise!
Have Fun!

MM!
I for one, feel that swaps are for the benefit of all involved and by all means, a promotion of the Art! Everyone of us started as a beginner tyer of flies at some point. Most all take great pride in trying to produce a great set of flies for the swap, no matter what skill level they are at.
In my own experience, I ran over on the date a time or two, more because I wasn't happy with what I was getting done and I felt that I owed it to the others in the swap! I would much rather allow a person to do their best then to be unhappy with poor workmanship and then you "blast them" for that!
Don't sweat the little stuff! If this is so disappointingly for you, Swaps may not be your best way to enjoy the hobby!
If it would help, send me on your best Doz. flies.... I'll get some back your way! There's a swap for you! I would be willing, never having seen your work!
Take time to do it right!
You all have fun!

If that was a moan, I don't want to be around for a full fledge belly-ache! You know, a few days adrift on a calm bit of secluded water will clear that right up! That "therapy" can be quite effective if you can get the sun to shine a bit through those fluffy white clouds with a breeze enough to ripple the water!
Good Day!

Davie, there is still another day to run on this yet, you said the closing date was the 16th May not the 14th, then there is the weekend to receive the stragglers and Monday to post.
Then we have our American friend Flitrap who has taken the time to tie and post the flies, the least you can do is give him the benefit of waiting for the flies to arrive being they are travelling 5,000 odd miles.
My flies are now posted and should be with you by the closing date of the 16th, if not they will arrive at the weekend.
