Rod HelpHi Guys
I was thinking of buying a Greys GRXI outfit, 9ft rod #5/6 wt, rod tube, reel, spare spools, 3 Cortland 333HT lines (float, intermediate & type 3 sinker). All this for £175 from harrissportsmail. I've only been fishing 6mths so I was wondering if this outfit would do for rivers & stillwaters. At the minute I've got an odessy 9ft 6 rod 7/8wt with a floating line. Any help would be great.

Plum,
That set up will do for both river & stillwater. 5/6# is the ideal all purpose, allround rod but you may be a wee bit restricted for distance on the stillwaters but like I say the margins produce more than the middles imo. I would use a 5# line when using it on the rivers though. If your interested I have a Greys MK1 greyflex 9'6" 6/7# you can have for £60 + P+P if you need a bit more distance on the lakes.

That sounds like a really good deal to me. The rod on it's own is normally about £100 and roughly £35 each for the lines. Snap it up while you can.

Re: rod helpCheers lads
I think I will go for the GRXI outfit as it comes with all I need & is fully loaded with backing & loops. Thankyou for your help & I will let you know how I get on with the rod when I get it.

If your interested David, I will arrange to meet up somewhere with you in the coming weeks or you can buy it on trust and I will post it off to you. It is a very good rod but is just surplus to my requirements now. It has a few cosmetic scratches but apart from that is as good as new and comes in a bag and tube.

Hi Wayne, I got my new GRXI outfit & I am really impressed with it, now all I have to do is catch some fish with it. I've just started fishing 6mths now & tying about 2mths. My first few flies looked like roadkill at disney land but I've improved a wee bit since.
Will the forum have a stand at the loughs show so as I can meet some of the members and maybe get a few tips ( i really need all the help i can get).

Unfortuanly mate we have not got the finaces yet to have a stall at the show, as much as I would like to it is just not viable at present.
You will get plenty of tips at the show no worries there, go and see Peter Kealey (a forum member) he will give you plenty of good information concerning your tying. Other forum members tying will be Stevie Munn and Lawrence Finney, Stevie is a good bloke and will give you some invaluable tips on the Irish Lough patterns.
Glad you like your new outfit.
