Waders Advice

Hello all.

I need waders and I am a bit of a novice.

Could anyone offer any advice regarding material, chest or thigh, and price.

I hope to try a bit of river trouting this year as well as stillwater.

Look forward to any recommendations

well i dnt knw much, but i wud say chest waders because it covers more options for wading as such

breathable waders are good because they are light enough to allow you to walk for hours up a river bank and also keep you cool in the summer

neoprene waders on the other hand will keep you incredibly warm but are tht much heavier than breathable waders

so id recommend the Greys GRX stockingfoot waders and boots

Hi there i've been using the scierra breathables for 2 seasons and they have taken a fair bit of abuse and havn't let me down. They also are not bad value for money. Cool Have a look at this link for comparison to other ones to help you in your quest!!

I was always told that for rivers a fairly robust pair of chest waders would be the ideal artillery. I was also told that when fishing rivers the waders do take a certain amount of abuse more so than on a still water. For example some rivers are only accessible after walking over rough terrain, negotiating bushes etc & climbing fences & gates, this runs the risk of the waders being damaged, which comes to my point, do you want to spend £100+ on a pair of waders when the risk is there of rips and cuts or do you want to purchase a fairly mid priced pair that are easily replaceable if the inevitable happens.
A good pair I would recommend are these http://www.anglingclassics.co.uk/Waders_Ron_Thompson.html
Recommended to me also by the sites owner who also uses them on the less accessible rivers.

Piscator,

I was faced with the same thing last year. I had a pair of Vision waders which lasted me 3 seasons, they had started to leak around the knee area stiching.

I did the usual searching, best price, most recommended ect.... and found that the Orvis Clearwater Endura were highly regarded. I visited an Orvis shop whilst in the UK and the rep said he recommends them over the more expensive waders because the material is much thicker, which makes them warmer (only slightly) but harder wearing. They retail for about £120, they don't come with gravel guards so I picked up a pair for £15. There is an advantage for no gravel guards though, there are less seams to wear out. They are much better than the £200 Vision I had previously bought and I think they are of a much better build quality too.

I use neoprene waders for SWFF, Diawa ones which cost me £50 from a shop in Derry. Equally good but I wouldn't wear them if I was heading out for a long trek anywhere!!!

I hope this is of some help.

Glasgow Angling Centre are doing the Scierra Aquatex breathables plus wading boots for £110. John Norris have the Grey's G-series waders and boots for £129.99

I have the Aquatx and would say they are a very good wader. They have served me well over the last 2 seasons and still going well. £110 including boots is a very good offer.
