There are lots of rigs out there in sea fishing what I am going to try and do is show you what some of them are for you can pick them up in the fishing shops ready made I like to make my own and if you want to start making you own rigs they don’t get much easier than this if anyone wants to make there own please pm me and I will put up what parts you will need and the measurements of the rig. The pulley rig was made for rock fishing and is still used today for this tho you can use it on beaches as well I find it’s a great all round rig I use it for distance fishing with sandeel it can be used for 10-20 yard lobs using rag worms mackerel or what ever bait you have in the freezer. What fish can you hope to take on this rig well really almost any fish can be taken on this rig in my time using this rig I have had some of the best fish using it sea bass, sea trout, conger eels, cod, flounder, ect. As for hook size well if you buy out of a shop you relay have to take what you get for most baits a 1/0 hook is just right if you’re using a whole sandeel then I would recommend a 3/0 hook.

Nice one Merv, please pm me the instructions mate.
Whats is the theory behind having the rig as a pulley? is it for more movement or to prevent snagging? or neither..

the way the pulley rig works is on a beach fishing with one i use a grip lead so that when i fish takes the bait and runs the lead grips the bottom the hook gets set the fish will run out of line realy hooking its self no need to strike the fish it hooks its self

Thats very good, a self hooking rig. Does it produce a good hook hold?

yea most of the time the fish will get hooked in the mouth and can be sent on there way unharmed in sea fishing this is called a cleanley hooked fish some times you will get a fish that is gut hooked in that case we just cut the line and put the fish back with the hook in it,now a days sea hooks are made to fall appart when in sea water after 3-10 days depending on how good of a make the hook is.
